State Farm office in San Luis Obispo is closing

The State Farm Insurance office located at 735 Tank Farm Road in San Luis Obispo will close as part of the company’s restructuring plan.

The four employees, claims adjusters who work in that claims office, have been offered the chance to relocate to Bakersfield or to work from home.

“We’re not talking terminations here,” said Greg Sherlock, public affairs specialist with State Farm. “All of the employees can either take the teleworker positions they’ve been offered or relocate to Bakersfield.”

A field office in Avila Beach and all agent locations will remain open.

“Only the satellite office in San Luis Obispo is affected by this,” said Sherlock. “Agents as well as policyholders will not see any changes. It’s a seamless transition that will occur over the next eight months and will be in place by July 31, 2011.”

In addition, State Farm will close its 450-employee Rohnert Park regional office and move most of the jobs to Bakersfield as well, the company announced Wednesday.

The company will also shut down its regional office in Fresno and end leases at smaller satellite offices in Chico, Lancaster, Modesto, Palm Desert, San Francisco, San Marcos, San Ramon and Watsonville.

The insurer, one of the largest in California, expects to complete the reorganization by July 31.
