A milk cow and calf made for real-life lessons at Bishop Peak Elementary School in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday. The Dairy Council of California’s mobile dairy classroom brought the animals to the campus as part of its outreach to teach children about agriculture and nutrition. Besides hearing about how milk comes from a dairy, the students learned about the anatomy of a cow, agriculture’s role in the food supply and the dietary importance of milk products.
