Update:

The man found dead Wednesday has been identified as Mark Edward Lepley, 55 , of Grover Beach, police said.

Original story:

A man found dead Wednesday near the railroad tracks in San Luis Obispo likely died of natural causes, but police are still investigating the exact cause of his death.

The 55-year-old homeless man had been camping out near the tracks about 100 yards from the end of Industrial Way, police said. Another camper found his body about 11 a.m., said Lt. Steve Tolley. The man’s identity isn’t being released until his next of kin is notified.

It's not believed there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, Tolley said, but a coroner was on his way to investigate.

Police had prior contacts with the man and knew him, Tolley said, but they didn’t know how long he’d been living locally.

Fellow campers said the man had health problems, but police aren’t being specific about what those are because of medical privacy laws.
