A number of events are being planned throughout San Luis Obispo County today to mark Veterans Day:
Veterans Day Ceremony. 11 a.m. Patriotic music, bagpipe and drums corps performances, military flyovers and a community barbecue. Co-sponsored by the Atascadero Veterans Memorial Foundation and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2814 of Atascadero. Tribute to Veterans. 11 a.m. Hosted by American Legion Post No. 432, featuring the Cambria Choir, a keynote talk by decorated Vietnam combat veteran Greg Sanders and a barbecue lunch. Cambria Veterans Memorial Building, 1000 Main St., Cambria.
Ceremony and barbecue. 10:30 a.m. Instead of a keynote speaker, guests will be invited to share personal experiences. Lunch provided by the Bay-Osos Kiwanis. Free. Los Osos Valley Memorial Park, 2260 Los Osos Valley Road. 528-1500.
Veterans Day celebration. 11 a.m. Live patriotic music, flyover demonstration by Estrella Warbird planes and a ceremony to honor local veterans featuring keynote speaker Lt. Col. John Bohn of Camp San Luis Obispo, followed by a free hot dog lunch provided by Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home. Hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10965 and American Legion Post 50. Villages of San Luis Obispo Veterans Day celebration. 1:30 p.m. Featuring veteran guest speakers, the Central Coast Leatherneck Honor Guard, live music by The Dave Becker Trio, military memorabilia and refreshments. Veterans Celebration at Thursday night Farmers Market in San Luis Obispo. 6 to 9 p.m. Hosted by the Downtown Association and the city of San Luis Obispo. Procession at 6:15 p.m. led by the Marine Corps Color Guard, Central Coast Pipes and Drums and the Grizzly Youth Academy Drill Team, followed by posting of colors and ceremony at Chorro and Higuera streets. The following services will be affected by today’s holiday:
All libraries and federal, state, county, city and community-service district offices are closed.
Post offices are closed, with no delivery.
No school today or Friday for kindergarten through 12th grade, except for Coast Unified School District, which has classes Friday.
Cuesta College is open today but closed Friday. Cal Poly is closed today but the Kennedy Library is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Trash pickup will continue with regular schedules.
The Tribune offices are open.
