UPDATE: The CHP this morning says a 64-year-old Salinas man was killed in the single-vehicle accident Wednesday night at the San Luis Obispo-Kern counties line.
The man, who won't be identified until next of kin are notified, was headed east on Highway 46 when he drifted across the double-yellow line. The man then veered back into the eastbound lanes, overcorrected and zoomed back across the westbound lanes.
His 1989 Chevrolet pickup ran down an embankment and rolled. The man, who was not wearing his seat belt, was ejected from the truck. The truck came to rest on top of him, the CHP said.
Passersby administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but to no avail. The man was declared dead at the scene.
