Colleagues, friends and family of former San Luis Obispo Fire Chief John Callahan gathered Monday for the dedication of the new dispatch center as the John W. Callahan Memorial Public Safety Communications Center.
Callahan, 61, died of a heart attack in August, after nearly five years with the city. Police Chief Deborah Linden spoke of his leadership and insight during the building of the center, which opened in May, and his dedication to making sure dispatchers had a safe and reliable place to do their jobs.
“Our lives and our city are better for John having been here,” Linden said.
Callahan’s wife, Lynne, thanked everyone for their continual support.

“I know for years to come, generations of our family will have the opportunity to visit the center and know what it means to give to community — like John did,” she said. “Today is a glorious remembrance.”
