Second molestation report comes to light

The 71-year-old North County man arrested Thursday on suspicion of a recent child molestation also allegedly committed a sex crime against a child 18 years ago, the county Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

Harvey Richard Huber, of Heritage Ranch, remained in County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail Friday night.

He is being held on suspicion of two counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.

Sheriff’s sexual assault detectives recently received a report that Huber allegedly had molested a child visiting from out of the area.

That investigation led to another case of a purported victim from Southern California — who is now an adult. That assault allegedly was committed 18 years ago.

Sheriff’s officials said the arrest was a culmination of a three-month investigation.

According to the state Penal Code, a person convicted of committing a lewd or lascivious act against a child under 14 faces up to eight years in prison for each count.

The state Department of Social Services has also been assigned to the case because Huber lives at a licensed day care location on Water View Drive in the community at Nacimiento Lake.

But the Sheriff’s Department has no information to suspect that any of the children who attended the day care were victims.

Huber doesn’t appear to have any local criminal history, according to county court records.

Authorities have not disclosed any other information about the case.
