Smoke in the North County could be from Vandenberg fire, officials say

County/Cal Fire says that smoke reported to be seen or smelled in areas of San Luis Obispo County spanning from Cuesta College to Highway 41 between Morro Bay and Atascadero could be drifting smoke from a large brush fire near Vandenberg Air Force Base in northern Santa Barbara County.

Though it has received some inquiries, the agency says they have not received any definitive reports that a brush fire is burning in the North County or surrounding areas.

Tankers based at Paso Robles Municipal Airport that have been helping fight the fire near Vandenberg have been scouring the local area looking for a blaze but haven’t found one.

Southeast winds have been pushing smoke from the Vandenberg fire to the ocean, and there is some speculation that it could be whipping around and into San Luis Obispo County.
