UPDATE: Morro Bay man killed in Cayucos auto wreck

UPDATE 9:15 P.M.: The CHP says a Morro Bay man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Cayucos early Sunday.

About 5 a.m., Kyle Anthony Lucas, 21, lost control of his 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup along southbound Highway 1 north of Cayucos Creek, according to the CHP.

He apparently lost control of the truck and drove into the dirt median, and then over-corrected back to the right, the CHP reported.

The pickup then traveled across the highway’s southbound lanes and down its west embankment, according to the CHP.

Lucas, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the pickup, the CHP reported.

The crash was not reported until 9 a.m., when an area man walking his dog came upon the wreck, according to the CHP.

Authorities have not said how the time of the crash was determined.
