U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy will have an academy forum for students in the 22nd District who are interested in attending one of the national service academies.

It’s set for 3 to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 at Atascadero Unified School District board chambers, 5601 West Mall in Atascadero.

The event will provide interested students and parents the opportunity to learn about the application process, academy life and career opportunities in the military, McCarthy said.

The application procedure to receive a congressional nomination to one of the academies will be presented, as well.

A video of McCarthy will also be presented.

Academy liaison officers along with visiting cadets and midshipmen from the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will be on hand to answer questions.

San Luis Obispo

The Home Builders Association of the Central Coast is endorsing Paul Brown for mayor of San Luis Obispo.

Brown was endorsed by the association because of his demonstrated ability to make fair and impartial decisions, listen to all sides of an issue, and apply land use and housing policies, laws and ordinances in a logical and consistent manner, according to a statement.

Additional endorsements for Brown include Mayor Dave Romero, State Sen. Sam Blakeslee, county Supervisors Katcho Achadjian and Frank Mecham, Pismo Beach Mayor Mary Ann Reiss and Atascadero Mayor Roberta Fonzi.
