Disability Mentoring Day: Experiencing a day in the life

Crystal Halterman, left, joins Kari Knotzon at the county Clerk-Recorder’s Office on Wednesday in preparing materials for the Nov. 2 election. Halterman worked at the county office as part of Disability Mentoring Day.

The day is held every Oct. 20 to allow a disabled person a chance to experience a work environment. Another person taking part was Jessica Voltero, an aspiring poet. She met with Kevin Clark, a professor at Cal Poly who writes poetry. They spent time reading each other’s poems and offering critiques. A third individual, Erika Martinez, went to the Sands Inn and Suites in San Luis Obispo. She was assisted by Joe Eister.

The mentoring day is overseen by PathPoint, a nonprofit organization that helps individuals with developmental disabilities.
