The State Parks Department is finishing the removal of two culverts beneath Highway 1 at Estero Bluffs State Park north of Cayucos, including this one at San Geronimo Creek. The other was at Swallow Creek to the north. The purpose is to rehabilitate the creek to improve it as wildlife habitat for red-legged frogs, tidewater gobies and other species, District Superintendent Juventino Ortiz said. The old box culverts were also covered with graffiti.
