A San Luis Obispo man suffered a broken collar bone and abrasions after being attacked while jogging along a path near the railroad tracks Monday night.

The 20-year-old man was jogging on the paved running path between the San Luis Obispo train station and Orcutt Road about 9:15 p.m.

A man who appeared to be a transient suddenly confronted him and demanded money, according to a police department news release. After the jogger refused, the other man punched him in the face and took him to the ground.

While on top of the victim, the suspect patted down the victim’s pockets, according to police. After realizing the victim had nothing on him, the suspect ran away.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for a broken collar bone and minor abrasions.

The suspect is described as a white man between 30 and 40 years old.

Santa Margarita

One lane of southbound Highway 101 near Santa Margarita was blocked Wednesday morning after a collision.

The vehicles collided in the fast lane just north of Highway 58 at approximately 7:55 a.m., according to the CHP. The two cars remained in the lane, causing a backup for morning commuters.

The lane was cleared at 8:45, according to the CHP.

One of the people involved in the collision complained of back pain.
