Election for 15th District state Senate seat is today

San Luis Obispo County voters go to their polling places today in the special election to fill the vacant 15th District state Senate seat.

Voters will chose a replacement for Abel Maldonado, the former senator who last spring was appointed to the lieutenant governor’s post.

Running in today’s election are Republican Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee of San Luis Obispo; Democrat and former Assemblyman John Laird of Santa Cruz; independent Jim Fitzgerald of Nipomo; and Libertarian Mark Hinkle of Morgan Hill.

Polling-place locations are printed on the back of each voter’s sample ballot or yellow notification card; many polling places have changed since the last election, so make sure to check. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

For more information about polling locations, call 781-5228 or go online to www.slocounty.ca.gov/clerk.

Absentee ballots must be returned by 8 tonight at any polling place or the county clerk-recorder’s offices in San Luis Obispo or Atascadero.
