A man was transported to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton on Saturday after his thumb was severed when it was caught between the rim of the boat and the side of the dock at the Nacimiento Lake boat launch ramp, causing an amputation, according to the county Sheriff’s Department.
A recreational boater was approaching the dock at 12:24 p.m. and placed his hand out to stop his craft from striking the dock, said sheriff’s spokesman Rob Bryn.
A sheriff’s dive team member recovered the severed thumb and transported it to the hospital, Bryn said. It was not known whether the thumb was able to be reattached.
