Arroyo Grande man argues with girlfriend, then gets arrested for meth

A 60-year-old Arroyo Grande man was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and marijuana after an officer and his police dog uncovered the substances in a search of a local home.

Officers were called to a house in the 300 block of Pecan Place at 1 a.m. on Monday when a woman and her boyfriend got into an argument and the man locked himself in a bathroom.

The man, William Smyer, came out of the bathroom as requested by officers. As they talked with him, they found narcotics paraphernalia that they determined belonged to Smyer.

K9 handler Shane Day and his dog Gregor then searched the residence, and uncovered 24.2 grams of methamphetamine, said Cmdr. John W. Hough. Also found were 22.5 grams of marijuana and a digital scale commonly used in drug sales.

Smyer was arrested and booked into County Jail on the allegations, Hough said.
