Man arrested after allegedly breaking into parked car in SLO

A San Luis Obispo man was arrested early Friday after allegedly breaking into a parked car.

A resident called police at 2:43 a.m. to report a man with a flashlight inside a parked vehicle in the 1500 block of El Tigre.

Officers found Charles Vincent Simmons, 27, near the vehicle, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The rear passenger window of the vehicle had been shattered, and Simmons was allegedly wearing a backpack that was later identified as having been removed from the broken-into vehicle.

Simmons also stole change from the vehicle, according to police.

Arrested on suspicion of vehicle burglary, Simmons was booked into County Jail. Bail was set at $50,000.
