Memorial planned in Paso Robles for fallen CHP officer

A memorial service for CHP officer Brett Oswald, who died late Sunday after being hit by a car just south of Paso Robles while on duty, is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at the Paso Robles Event Center, 2198 Riverside Ave.

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend, according to the Paso Robles Police Department. Police and city staff will be on site to direct traffic.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and all streets surrounding the Event Center between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., police said, as traffic will be congested through detours and road closures to handle the amount of people expected.

Riverside Avenue between 21st and 24th streets will be closed between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. Motorists traveling northbound on Riverside Avenue will be detoured to westbound 21st Street. There will be no parking on the southeast side of 24th Street between Riverside Avenue and Highway 101.

Vehicles found in violation of parking regulations will be subject to citation and/or tow, police said.
