Fire burns 5 acres of brush just south of Atascadero on Monday afternoon

A fire burned 5 acres south of Atascadero before firefighters contained it Monday afternoon. The fire burned in a river bed and through cottonwood trees, but no structures were threatened, according to Cal Fire officials.

The fire was reported at 4:12 p.m. at Chia Place and Santa Clara Road. It was contained at 5:01 p.m.

A helicopter, two air tankers and 120 firefighters responded to the blaze.
