Flashing beacons meant to warn of cross-traffic being installed on Hwy. 101 in South County

Caltrans on Tuesday started installing solar-powered flashing beacons along Highway 101 to warn drivers of cross traffic from one mile north of Los Berros Road to one mile south of Valley Road.

Two of the beacons will be placed in the northbound direction and one in the southbound direction.

The work will take place on the shoulder of the highway; no lane closures are expected. The $50,000 project will be completed by the end of July by Lee Wilson Electric of Arroyo Grande.

Caltrans is also continuing with plans to install a median barrier along 4.6 miles of Highway 101, from the Los Berros Road undercrossing to the Traffic Way exit, in an effort to prevent broadside collisions.

The barrier would restrict left-hand turns at El Campo Road, Laetitia Vineyard & Winery and at three other cross-over locations.
