Teenager seriously injured after being hit by car in Atascadero

A 15-year-old Atascadero girl sustained serious injuries Thursday night after a vehicle hit her while she was crossing El Camino Real off El Bordo Avenue.

The teen, who police say is in critical but stable condition, was "in or about to enter" a marked crosswalk at 10:20 p.m. when she was struck.

Atascadero police and fire departments responded to a 9-1-1 call from the driver who stopped and called for help, police said.

The teen was transported to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton for treatment Thursday night, police said, and then was later transferred to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.

The investigation into the whether the driver will be charged is ongoing. It is not suspected alcohol was involved, police said.
