A 26-year-old Shandon man was killed in Friday’s three-vehicle crash on Highway 46.
CHP officers said the man was traveling east on Highway 46 near McMillan Canyon Road about 6 p.m. when he stopped to make a left-hand turn to his home in the 1000 block of Highway 46 East in Shandon.
As he was stopped, a 1998 Toyota driven by a 22-year-old Grover Beach man traveling at a high rate of speed came up behind him and hit the man’s 1987 Honda from behind.
The collision pushed the Honda into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 27-year-old Tulare man traveling the other direction.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota suffered moderate injuries; the Dodge’s driver suffered minor injuries. Both men were taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton.
The names of the individuals involved were not released Saturday. The crash remained under investigation.
Initial police reports indicated the driver of the Honda was turning from McMillan Canyon Road onto Highway 46 when the crash occurred.
