Biz Buzz: Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce CEO resigns

The chief executive officer of the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce submitted her resignation on Friday, saying she decided to move back to Washington state to care for her mother.

Rebecca McMurry relocated from Portland, Ore., in 2002 to work as the chamber’s event coordinator. She was named its director in 2004.

Suellen Iness, currently president of the chamber’s board of officers, will serve as interim CEO until the chamber selects a new leader.

The chamber’s officers and board of directors don’t plan on rushing that process, Iness said. First, they want to take a look at the membership benefits, finish updating the chamber’s website, and get more involved in social networking.

“We thought we’d do that so when we bring someone in, the board has already had its influence on what we want,” she said.

The chamber currently has about 475 members.
