A 27-year-old inmate at the County Jail apparently tried to commit suicide late Wednesday but was helped by a quick-acting correctional officer who entered his cell after he saw the inmate hanging from a noose fashioned out of a T-shirt, according to sheriff’s officials.
The incident happened just after lockdown at 11:40 p.m. Jail staff, including the jail nurse, responded to the call from the housing unit and determined the man was breathing on his own, officials said.
The inmate, who has not been sentenced, was transferred to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he is listed in good condition. His name was not released.
