Atascadero man challenges Schwarzenegger to budget 'fight'

A trash-talking Atascadero resident wants to bring the budget fight with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger into the ring.

John Crippen, 43, has penned a letter challenging the former body-building champ to a two-minute fight to raise cash for local programs that he says have been hit with steep budget cuts.

"Surely, you being the 'Terminator' and all, wouldn't be scared of a single two-minute round by UFC regulations. ...You are obviously bigger, stronger, and in better shape than I am, so it would be really embarrassing for you to turn down this wonderful offer," said Crippen, a Democrat who has practiced mixed martial arts for 20 years.

Revenue from the fight could be used to fund San Luis Obispo County Community Mental Health, The Atascadero Unified School District and Cuesta College's Senior Emeritus programs, said Crippen.

No word yet on whether the governor plans to accept the challenge.

Crippen's letter:

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,

It has come to my attention that the only thing you have "terminated" is much needed community services. I am disappointed to say the least in regards to the direction our state's budget has gone.

In the county of San Luis Obispo, we have lost almost all of our Senior Emeritus programs for the elderly, our children are in much need of books, and the community mental health programs have lost much needed funding for assistance such as the Community Outreach Program.

Here's where it gets good... Surely, you being the "Terminator" and all, wouldn't be scared of a single 2 minute round by UFC regulations. I challenge you to just that. Step in the ring with me and man up! A single two minute round to be done in my home town of Atascadero. I would like to do this as a fund raiser and divide the revenew (sic) into 3 equal amounts between these local charities. San Luis Obispo County Community Mental Health, The Atascadero Unified School District, and to Cuesta College to be ear-marked for the Senior Emeritus Programs.

Terms... You agree to let any and all revenew (sic) go to these places. You do not train with anybody in or from San Luis Obispo (That's my camp), We fight 1 2-minute round by UFC regulations, the place I choose to use for the ring will be reimbursed for any expenses they put out regarding this match, and we do the match 10 weeks from the date you sign on board. If I require any testing for this match to be sanctioned, you pick up the tab. After all, in your campaign you stated that you were "already rich" if I am not mistaken.

You are obviously bigger, stronger, and in better shape than I am, so it would be really embarrassing for you to turn down this wonderful offer. I can only hope the post (sic) effects of your prior steroid use has not completely depleted your manhood. I hope to see you in the ring shortly after 10 weeks. "Governator VS. Trippin'Crippen" Yeah, that has a nice ring to it!!!!

John Crippen
