More than three dozen law enforcement officers in San Luis Obispo County were recognized this week for their contributions in 2009 toward removing from county roadways drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving annually recognizes the efforts of officers who make more than 25 drunken driving arrests during the year, according to Arroyo Grande police Cmdr. Chuck Gerhart.
The top arresting officer for 2009 was Officer Jacob Scott of the CHP in the San Luis Obispo area. He had 122 arrests.
Officers were also honored from the police departments in the seven cities, the county Sheriff’s Department, CHP, the University Police Department at Cal Poly, and California State Parks and Recreation at Oceano Dunes.
The agencies, as well as the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, the Cuesta College Police Department and California State Parks at Hearst Castle, participate in a countywide Avoid the 14 taskforce.

The Grover Beach Community Library will hold a spring book sale today, offering thousands of donated new and used fiction, non-fiction, classics, research and children’s books.

The Senior Nutrition Program of San Luis Obispo County is opening another free lunch site at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 11245 Los Osos Valley Road in San Luis Obispo.
It is the 10th site in the county where hot noon-time meals are available every weekday to seniors age 60 and older.
The additional site offers ample parking, disabled accessibility and proximity to a bus stop.
Senior Nutrition Program also delivers free, hot meals to the homebound throughout the county on weekdays and offers frozen meals for the weekend.
The opening of the new site precedes Senior Nutrition Program’s annual fund-raising event, Night of a Million Meals dinner and auction, being held this year at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
