San Luis Obispo's sales-tax increase will be discussed at community meeting

A community meeting to discuss the half-cent sales-tax rate increase that passed in 2006 known as Measure Y will be held Wednesday night.

The sales-tax increase will end in November 2015, unless extended by voters. The measure was passed to help pay for community services such as street maintenance, traffic congestion relief, public safety, flood protection, senior services and facilities and open space preservation.

City staff is preparing a financial supplement to the current two-year budget and is seeking public discussion on the allocation of Measure Y funds. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the City/County Library Community Room, 995 Palm St., in San Luis Obispo.
