Firefighters to descend on Santa Margarita for fire season training

County/Cal Fire will hold an annual wildland training exercise on May 1 to help sharpen firefighters’ skills prior to fire season.

This year, the training will be hosted out of the department’s Parkhill Road station in Santa Margarita.

About 100 to 150 participants and 20 fire engines are expected, according to Cal Fire Inspector Clint Bullard.

Participants will train on the use of hand tools, engine operations, aircraft safety, and communications.
