Bomb threats at SLO schools lead to arrest

A Santa Maria man was arrested Thursday after police say he told 911 dispatchers he had planted bombs at several San Luis Obispo schools.

San Luis Obispo Police say Charles Edward Rose, 45, called 911 from a pay phone about 10 a.m. and said he had planted the bombs at several unidentified campuses. Police notified school district officials and no evidence was discovered to substantiate his threats, police said.

Rose was arrested after the dispatch center traced the call to a pay phone in San Luis Obispo and officers began searching the area, police said.

Plain-clothed officers arrested Rose after they reportedly saw him make a second call about 10:40 a.m.

Rose was arrested on suspicion of false report of planting bombs, criminal threats and misuse of Emergency 911. He was taken to County Jail.
