Jacob Shearer, 20, was arrested in connection with drive-by-shootings March 3 that damaged buildings and homes but didn’t hurt anyone.

He pleaded not guilty last week to the felony crimes of discharging a firearm at a dwelling and discharging a firearm in a negligent manner.

The shootings were reported in the 2300 block of Larkfield Place, the 2400 block of Starling Drive, the 6500 block of Wagon Wheel Place and the 2000 block of Sage Brush Road.

Shearer is in custody in County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

San Luis Obispo

The Jewish Community Center of San Luis Obispo will host a talk on modern Israeli history Thursday at the San Luis Obispo City/County Library presented by student Dan Davis of Santa Maria.

The talk is set for 6:30 p.m. in the library’s conference room.

Emphasis will be on what occurred before 1948, the nation’s War of Independence, and changes that have resulted from the Six Day and Yom Kippur wars.

The object will be to uncover facts rather than express opinions or solutions and to aid in formulating better-informed opinions.

Davis will base his discussion on a bibliography of materials and sources, including Abba Eban’s “My Country: Modern Israeli History” (1948-1977), Melvin Urovfsky’s “We are One” (1978), Colin Shindler’s “A History of Modern Israel” (2008), and Benny Morris’ “History of the First Arab-Israeli War” (1948).
