Woman arrested after wreck on Highway 101 in Nipomo

A Santa Maria woman suffered moderate injuries and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving this afternoon when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a median on Highway 101.

CHP officers said Melissa A. Hensiek, 23, was traveling south near Tefft Street about 1:10 p.m. when she lost control of the 2000 GMC she was driving. The vehicle crashed into a median and rolled, officers said.

Hensiek was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a laceration to her left leg, abrasions to her face and a large bruise to her forehead, according to the CHP. She was not wearing her seatbelt, officers said.

She was taken by ambulance to Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria, where she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and released to the hospital for treatment.
