Earthquake shakes Parkfield, but no damage reported

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.6 struck this afternoon in a rural area of Monterey County.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake hit about 3:44 p.m. about five miles northwest of Parkfield, or about 17 miles northeast of San Miguel.

A dispatcher for the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department said the department had not received any calls for service.
