An Illinois man has been arrested on suspicion of engaging in sexual activity with a 16-year-old Arroyo Grande girl whom he met on the Internet, according to Arroyo Grande Police Department officials.
San Luis Obispo County Superior Court issued an arrest warrant March 11 for Lionel Meza, 43, as a result of an investigation by Arroyo Grande police into his alleged sexual activity with the teen, according to police officials.
After a three-state investigation, Meza was arrested March 15 in Round Lake, Ill., local police said.
The warrant charges Meza with five counts of oral copulation with a person younger than 18 and one count of sexual penetration of a person younger than 18, with full extradition and a bail amount of $1 million.
Meza and the teen formed a relationship on the Internet in late 2007, Arroyo Grande police said.
Police withheld her name and The Tribune will not name her because she’s the alleged victim of a sex crime.
Detective Dan Langstaff said that Meza met the teen on a live chat site called LiveJournal.com.
Langstaff said that Meza met with the girl in Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo and came to San Luis Obispo County at least three times.
Meza traveled from Tuscon to the county after arranging meetings with the alleged victim.
He is scheduled to be extradited by April 3 from Illinois.
