Fire destroys garage in Morro Bay

Two people suffered minor injuries Tuesday night when a fire destroyed a garage in Morro Bay.

Crews responded to the garage on Ironwood Drive just before 9 p.m., Morro Bay Fire Chief Mike Pond said. When they arrived, the garage and adjacent carport were engulfed, he said.

Firefighters from Morro Bay and Cal Fire kept the fire from spreading to a breezeway that connected the garage to a house, he said.

Shotgun shells and other ammunition stored inside the garage created several small explosions, Pond said. It took about 20 minutes to put out the fire.

A citizen suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene, Pond said. A firefighter suffered a minor burn and was treated at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, he said.

The fire was under investigation late Tuesday night.
