ONTARIO — Cristy Scarson scored 19 points today to lead North County Christian's girls basketball to a 47-33 win over Calvary Baptist in the championship game of the CIF-Southern Section Division 6A girls basketball playoffs.
It's the first Southern Section championship in any sport for the top-seeded Crusaders (19), who also lost in a divisional girls basketball championship game in 2003.
North County Christian jumped out to a 24-6 halftime lead, only to see Cavalry Baptist pull within 30-26 entering the fourth period. The Crusaders outscored Cavalry Baptist 17-7 in the fourth quarter to win going away.
