San Miguel couple suffer moderate injuries in fatal Highway 46 collision

Two North County residents suffered moderate injuries in a fatal collission along Highway 46 just east of the San Luis Obispo County line in Kern County on Saturday, according to the CHP.

Manuel and Maria Mosqueda, 55 and 54, respectively, of San Miguel were in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado going west that was hit head-on by an eastbound 2005 Chrysler Sebring, according to a report released by the CHP on Sunday.

Sandy Blake Roberts, 21, of Hollywood, Fla. was killed in the crash, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division.

He was the passenger in the Chrysler driven by Nicole C. Deane, 20, of Los Angeles and Nashville, Tenn., the CHP said.

About 7:35 p.m. Saturday, Deane was passing a pickup at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her car after moving back into the eastbound lane. Her car collided into the Chevrolet driven by Luis Carlos Mosqueda, 28, of King City, after veering back into the westbound lane the CHP reported.

Deane is being treated for major injuries at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield. Roberts died at the hospital, according to the coroner’s office.

The Mosquedas and their passenger, Karla E. Reyes, 30, of King City, were being treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, according to the CHP.

All of the people in the crash were wearing seatbelts, according to the CHP.

Emergency response to the collision shut down Highway 46 between Highways 41 and 33 for about three hours Saturday night.
