F-18 creates big rumble, lands at SLO Airport

A F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft landed at the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport today about 3 p.m., according to airport officials.

The plane, based at Lemoore Naval Air Station, flew over San Luis Obispo and landed at the airport as part of a Cal Poly class, said Richard Howell, the general manager of airport services with the county.

The plane departed around 4:30 to head back to its base near Fresno.

A naval captain flew the plane with a lieutenant in the back seat; they spoke with Cal Poly students about the aircraft, Howell said.
