On Monday, state parks workers began a project to burn tree limbs and other woody debris at Black Hill in Morro Bay.

The burn work will continue to March 31 and is intended to rid the park of dead and diseased trees and enhance the health of native plant communities. A previous fuels modification project produced a number of burn piles that need to be disposed of.

Boundaries of the burn area are La Loma, Kings and Carmel streets and Lower State Park Road. The burns will be conducted as weather conditions permit. They will be monitored by city and state fire departments and the county Air Pollution Control District.
