Severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for western San Luis Obispo and northwestern Santa Barbara Counties until 7 a.m. Wednesday.

At 6:16 a.m., the National Weather Service said Doppler radar showed a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing penny-sized hail and destructive winds of up to 70 mph moving inland.

The line of storms was moving across Santa Maria, Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo, and was continuing to move east at 30 mph. Weather spotters have reported gusts up to 50 mph.

Other locations on the warning list include - but are not limited to - Pismo Beach, Atascadero and Nipomo.
