About 700 gallons of raw sewage spilled Tuesday afternoon onto Naomi Avenue.
County Public Health officials say a blocked sewer main caused the overflow, which started on Baker Avenue and flowed down Naomi Avenue about 1:30 p.m.
The health department is advising the public to avoid contact with ocean water in Shell Beach below Seacliff Drive.
The incident is under investigation.
