Bracing for possible flooding from multiple storms next week, the Cambria Community Services District is providing free sand for residents to put in their own sandbags.
The hilly coastal community frequently endures localized flooding and problems with falling trees during heavy storms.
According to Fire Captain Bill Hollingsworth, captain with the Cambria Fire Department, the available sand is piled in front of the San Luis Obispo County equipment yard on Rodeo Grounds Road (between the Burton Drive hill and the entrance to Fiscalini Ranch Preserve’s East Ranch) and at Shamel Park on Windsor Boulevard on Park Hill.
Residents can buy sand bags locally at Cambria Hardware & Lumber, 2345 Village Lane.
The fire department does not have sandbags or sand available at the fire station.
