Police bust marijuana growing operation in Paso home

Paso Robles police seized approximately 75 pounds of marijuana from a local home Jan. 7.

Officers arrested Shaun Michael Sweetin, 32, of Paso Robles after finding a marijuana cultivation and sales operation, police said Thursday.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the home after neighbors in the 800 block of Oxen Street reportedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the backyard of the residence and became suspicious, police said. A greenhouse could also be seen in the backyard.

The search turned up an irrigation system, grow lights, fertilizer and drying systems in the backyard and basement of the residence, police said.Officers also seized materials related to the weighing, packaging and sales of marijuana.

The estimated value of the plants was not disclosed.

Sweetin was booked into County Jail on four felony charges related to the cultivation, possession and distribution of a controlled substance. As of Thursday morning, Sweetin had posted bail. The sum was not disclosed.

The investigation was turned over to the San Luis Obispo Narcotics Task Force, police said.
