Madeline Mezger, 19, seriously injured after being hit by car in San Luis Obispo

A 19-year-old woman was seriously injured early Sunday after being hit by a car, San Luis Obispo police said.

At 12:27 a.m., Madeline Mezger of Hawthorne was walking with friends across California Boulevard from the railroad tracks when she reportedly stopped in the middle of the street, police said.

She was struck by a 2009 Nissan Cube driven by Anthony Micheal Colicchio, 21, of San Luis Obispo. Mezger was wearing black clothing, police said, and Colicchio didn't see her until she was about three feet from his car.

Mezger was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, according to police.

Officers determined that Colicchio wasn't under the influence of alcohol. The accident is still under investigation.
