Hundreds of applicants are needed to fill positions with the U.S. Census Bureau in San Luis Obispo County. Testing is going on through February around the county.
According to the bureau’s Santa Maria office, 400 to 500 applicants are needed for San Luis Obispo and North Coast areas (Los Osos to San Simeon) alone. There are also test sites from Nipomo to Paso Robles.
Starting in April, census takers will begin going door to door to do in-person interviews at households that have not returned census forms. Those positions pay $15.50 per hour, plus 50 cents per mile in travel reimbursement.
Crew leader positions pay $17 per hour.
