Thieves attempted to steal an ATM from a Paso Robles bank early Sunday morning, but left with nothing - including a stolen truck used during the crime.
An alarm from one of the automated teller machines at Heritage Oaks Bank in the 400 block of South River Road sounded at 7:06 a.m. Sunday, according to Paso Robles police.
Officers arrived and found that unknown suspects had tied a cable from the truck to a machine in the drive-through area, and tried to pull it out. The ATM was successfully removed from its moorings, but landed a short distance away, face-down on the pavement.
The truck used by the suspects was left at the scene. Officers determined that it had been stolen from Long Beach.
