The Positive Opportunities for Parent Success program is recruiting families for free parent education group sessions starting in February and March.
Program groups are led by licensed marriage and family therapists and designed for parents with children 11 years or younger. Weekly evening sessions run for 11 weeks.
Goals include increasing the involvement of fathers in children’s lives, strengthening family communication, identifying family stressors and improving relationships between fathers and mothers.
Incentives include $200 paid to each participant in assessments during the course of the program. Free child care and snacks also are provided.

The Nipomo Starbucks Coffee store is working with the Nipomo Family Resource Center to give jackets to local children in need.
In December, Starbucks at 581 W. Tefft St. started collecting jackets for elementary and junior high students.
Store manager Nicolette Hiett and Mary Squellati, head of the resource center, decided a jacket drive would best help those in need this winter, which is expected to be colder and wetter than in past years.
Hiett washed the jackets, and teachers at local schools identified children who could use a jacket, which were given out at the schools this month.
For information on school and community projects, call Hiett at 929-4374 or Squellati at 473-5560.
