Investigators have identified the man found in the bushes earlier this month alongside South Bay Boulevard between Los Osos and Morro Bay as Mark Von Humphrey, 64, officials announced Tuesday.
A man searching for his dog discovered the body on Jan. 3.
It’s estimated that Humphrey, described as a transient that frequented San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, had been dead for about six months, according to Sheriff's Department spokesman Rob Bryn.
There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body, according to authorities, but since it had mummified, forensic anthropologists will investigate its condition.
