A fire caused about $80,000 in damage to an Atascadero apartment Sunday.

No injuries were reported in the blaze at 7865 Santa Ysabel Ave., which started about 7 a.m. in an upstairs master bedroom and was reported by a neighbor.

Twenty-two firefighters responded and were able to contain it to the upper bedroom within 24 minutes of arriving at the scene.

The estimated property value saved is $600,000. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Carly Fiorina, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, will be the guest of honor Thursday at a reception sponsored by the Republican Party of San Luis Obispo County and the Lincoln Club of San Luis Obispo County.

The VIP reception begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Holland Ranch, 2275 Carpenter Canyon Road. A general reception follows at 6:30 p.m.

Fiorina is former chairman and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard.

Her opponent in the GOP primary is Assemblyman Chuck DeVore of Irvine.

The winner of the June primary will face off against three-term incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer in November.

Morro Bay

Volunteers are needed to help rescue and care for marine mammals found on Central Coast shores.

Prospective volunteers can learn more during an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday sponsored by The Marine Mammal Center, a nonprofit organization that rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured, sick and orphaned marine mammals.

The meeting will be held at the Morro Bay Community Center, 1001 Kennedy Way in Morro Bay.
