Make-A-Wish Foundation grants shopping spree to Oceano girl

Seven-year-old Melanie Corona-Jimenez of Oceano, who is undergoing chemotherapy for a brain tumor, was granted a special wish Sunday when a limousine brought her to Santa Maria for a Toys “R” Us shopping spree.

The excursion was granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Tri-Counties, which helps realize the dreams of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

In the months preceding the wish, the foundation sent volunteer wish granters Rob Bronte and Loreli Brandt to Melanie’s Oceano home, where they interviewed Melanie to determine her desires.

Melanie’s shopping spree was originally scheduled for a date before Christmas, but her chemotherapy left her too weak to attend.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation and wish-granters stepped in to provide Melanie with a Christmas tree, decorations and presents to brighten the holiday as she gained strength for Sunday’s wish-granting celebration.
