Neighbors evacuated after alleged drunken driver crashes car into SLO house

Several San Luis Obispo homes were evacuated late Thursday after an allegedly drunken driver crashed a car into a house and caused a gas leak, according to police.

About 11:45 p.m., Elliot Jacob Due, 21, drove his white 1971 Chevrolet Camaro into a home along Luneta Drive, the San Luis Obispo Police Department reported.

The crash severed the home’s gas line, police said, causing a fire risk. Residents of surrounding homes were allowed back a couple of hours later.

Officers booked Due into County Jail on suspicion of drunken driving. His bail was set at $5,000, police said. The two occupants in the affected home weren’t hurt.
